Nicole StandingNicole Franklin is an award-winning filmmaker, television director, stage manager, editor, educator, public speaker and web event host. For fifteen years, her company EPIPHANY Inc. has been producing independent films for numerous cable networks including Showtime, BET, IFC, Nickelodeon, Sundance Channel and The Documentary Channel.  Her credits include The Double Dutch Divas!, Journeys In Black:  the Jamie Foxx Biography, Kids Around the World, NBC Nightly News, The Today Show, Black Enterprise Business Report, and CBS News. Her current educational films include Gershwin & Bess: A Dialogue with Anne Brown and the 10-chapter series Little Brother, both titles distributed by Third World Newsreel. Little Brother is a recipient of the Foundation to Promote Open Society/Campaign for Black Male Achievement Award, fiscally sponsored by Fractured Atlas.  Inspired by Gershwin & Bess…, Nicole has a screenplay in development titled BESS. She has covered entertainment in print and online, and she is the associate editor of SHADOW & ACT on INDIEWIRE.jai has roots in issue-driven independent films. She produced the short LIVING ON A WALMART SALARY for Al Jazeera Plus and wrote, produced, and directed PROTECT AND SERVE, a satirical sketch on police violence for Issa Rae Productions. She also worked on the feature films THROUGH A LENS DARKLY by Thomas Allen Harris, Jake Kornbluth’s INEQUALITY FOR ALL, and Jill Soloway’s feature directorial debut AFTERNOON DELIGHT.

As a freelance writer, she has covered entertainment, pop culture and social justice for The Huffington Post,, Cinematiq Magazine and others. She has curated content at the renowned Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM) and Harlem Stage, and she is currently a programming consultant for the 2015 Los Angeles Film Festival. She has appeared as a speaker and moderator at the Angelika Film Center, Seattle International Film Festival, New Orleans Film Festival, Pan African Film Festival, The New School, Howard University, Morgan State University, and others.

jai is a graduate of the Florida State University Film School and the Professional Program in Screenwriting at UCLA, and she was a Fellow in the Guy Hanks & Marvin Miller Screenwriting Program at USC. She is a member of the Writers Guild of America, West, NYWIFT, and the Black Documentary Collective.
